With Lizzo.
I cannot EVEN tell you how much that woman in ALL her complete embrace of who she is has impacted my life over the past month of getting to know her and work.

Lizzo made the decision in her life to embrace all she is. All of who she is and go out publicly and own her beauty, her voice and her presence.
That energy is CONTAGIOUS, my friend!

I love her because, quite honestly, our society as a whole could have easily discarded her for being a large, black woman trying to make it as a leading lady in music.
The odds for a woman of color to “make it” are slim in the world many of us live in…
…and she didn’t let those statistics guide her determination for what kind of a career she wanted.
She kept on keeping on – writing incredible lyrics, showing up fully, taking one step in front of the other, not letting NO stop her…
That’s so RARE.
I know for me (and I’ve heard from thousands of women over the years) that our excuses often are the reason we DON’T go for what we want.
Part of the reason coffee was more of a “hobby” for most of my life was because I primarily saw Men leading the conversations in the coffee world.
I love the men that have taught me so much about coffee and appreciate them, truly.
BUT.
It was as if I had this “small but deadly” person sitting on my shoulder saying,
“Well, you are a girl – there are barely any women leading this conversation – why should you do it? Do you even know very much about coffee???”
“But you don’t own your own roastery – who the hell would even listen to you?”
“But you’re JUST a mom.”
“But you have one of those hard names…”
“But you’re a woman of color…it’ll be harder for you.”
“But you are bubbly and kind. Most of the brands out there are masculine or just about the coffee profile. No one will take you seriously.”
BUT but but but but but…
UGH. I like “big buts” but I cannot lie…
…That game of playing small and letting this “small but deadly” voice in my head was truly stopping me from shining bright.

As you lean into your quirks, your “weirdness”, your unique way you do That Thing…
People want to turn their heads in your direction BECAUSE you made a decision to go for You!
While your knees may be knocking and your heart is pounding… YOU chose to say YES to ALL OF YOU.
That fear will start to wither away and you’ll find yourself standing tall in the midst of the fear.
YOU ARE MADE FOR MORE.
You are worth it!
